Finally They've Sorted Out That Pesky Britland
Sam's Archive - The Great British Venn Diagram
We were driving through this very ethnic area of Chicago. Well, it was ethnic because everywhere there were new and different world cultures represented. Croatian Cultural Center! Rajbhog Sweets & Snacks! Ken's Mandarin! Tel-Aviv Kosher Pizza! What says pizza more than Tel-Aviv Kosher Pizza? Did I mention we were looking for a restaurant, because we were all starving? We were almost ready to eat at Courtil Music Studio, which is listed in Yahoo as a restaurant, even though this listing seems HIGHLY suspicious. Courtil Music Studio is OBVIOUSLY a shoe store of some sort.
Naturally, with all the eight thousand different cultures represented there, we realized we must not be in the plain, ordinary U.S. anymore. We were in fancy, expanded, collector's-edition U.S.! We were in an area that was so ethnic and diverse, we decided we must be in Ethnovia. Yay! Ethnovia! I wish they had T-Shirts.
Yes, Ethnovia is a wonderful yet confusing place. A place that could use a good bunch of T-Shirts showing off its motto and flag. Which it also needs.
But it's not confusing like Britland is confusing! As a child, I was very perplexed by things about Britland, like where Wales is. "A Child's Christmas in Wales" mentions Wales, but it's never made clear where the heck Wales is. Near the ocean, maybe? Because of the "whales"? Everyone seemed to have a vaguely Britlandish accent, making them sound at least one and a half times smarter than us yanks. Than us yanks does. Than us do...
But NOW! Thanks to the genius of the Venn diagram and the awesome Sam Hughes, who used to find the situation confusing as well, we have a lovely visual aid to help us finally get it, and see why Irelandia is part of the U.K. and why France is not.
France has T-Shirts, right?
