Hmm, No, I Think It's Just a Hurricane

REPENT AMERICA

These self-righteous, disgusting, self-congratulatory asshats make me sick. They're saying that Hurricane Katrina was all the fault of gay people, who hold an annual celebration there. That's stupid, as it was CLEARLY caused in some way by my pal's little girl Katrina. (She also wrote the screenplay for Glitter.)

From the self-important, overbearing, arrogant website:

"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city."

Um, no... It was just a hurricane. Did you hear about these? They're natural weather events. It wasn't wrath against Mardi Gras or a gay convention. HURRICANE. Did anybody see a giant finger descend from the sky? No.

Besides. If there were deities smiting high concentrations of wickedness, how come Las Vegas hasn't been wiped out by some cataclysm? These people need to adjust their level of medication.

  • Of course.... Why'd I say Vegas? Clearly God would have smited LA as the first order of business, if he were in a smitin' mood.

    Seriously, good comment.

  • Although, if you think about it, gay pride is a funny concept.

There has to be protection for the psyches of gay people, to defend against the constant tearing-down that exists out there, but if that tearing-down wasn't done, sexual orientation would be the last thing to be proud of.

I mean, it's like blood type pride. "We're AB negative! And we're glad!"

Oh, wait, I forgot about orientation being a choice. And a sin. Too bad it's not blood type that's evil and sinful, since it would be way easier to test for during Crusades.

But none of this will matter when the robots take over.

  • ugh- I have been waiting for this to happen. I told Justin last week that they would do this because NOLA is the voodo-gay-whorin capital of excess in so many eyes.

I am sick of so many psychos making it almost embarassing to identify oneself as a Christian. I feel like in most of my social circles now I almost have to be in the closet.. because so many of my "brethren" keep opening their big mouths to say things that would make Jesus say, "Dude, really...you are a stupid ass. Leave people alone." Which is basically the literal translation from the Hebrew for the "Love thy neighbor" passage.

Hey have you seen the Interdictor Blog? The guy has been blogging from New Orleans (he works for an internet company). It is pretty interesting, scary, and enlightening. Here is the linkylu: http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/

  • I've known a few Christians, and the ones I've known have seemed to be decent, nice people. At least, there doesn't seem to be much about Christianity ITSELF that makes people LESS nice. My sister goes to church, and they talk about different ways we can be better people, and focusing on being better people generally leads to, you know, non-asshattery.

Not COMPLETE non-ass-hattery, because sometimes people ratchet up the judgmental part, since they talk a lot about sin this and sin that. They get so wrapped up in pitying the poor sinners who aren't going to enjoy Heaven with them, it gets hard to even think in any other ways. This gets hard for people in their lives who don't follow the same rules for how you're supposed to think.

But I guess some people feel that Christians have a duty to always be on the attack against other people's ways of thinking. Because it's thinking like that that is the only thing that could harm their group's strength, down the line. It would be easy to relax, if you knew no one would ever question what you were saying, that being gay is wrong, that sex outside of marriage is wrong, etc.

Some people just take it too far. They demonize people who really don't deserve it.

  • Wow, good comment, Annekat! You have really hit the nail on the head.

Good comment on you, too, Jamie, who are also very smart and right.

Annekat, though, I must say, I read every post of your blog, and sometimes you really make me think, you make me laugh, you make me cry. You make me breakfast. You are the wind beneath my wings.

Basically, my life wouldn't be the same without you in it. I love you, Annekat!
