Mars Sightings

I find it hard to follow Veronica Mars as the season wears on -- well, that's not true. What I find hard is guessing what the hell happened before the big reveal. I thought a timeline would help. With that, here's a timeline of what's happened so far this season. It's not complete -- it may be inaccurate in places. It's just a starting point, really. I plan to update this as events develop.

At the end of Season 1: Logan is on the bridge, and he is conronted by the bikers. He kicks Weevil in the face, knocking him out. When he awakens, the other bikers have all left, except for Felix, who is lying there dead. He goes to V's home, where he is arrested on suspicion of Felix's murder. (Speculation based on later events: maybe Felix was killed by the Fitzpatricks, looking to get revenge on Cervando. They come, they find Weevil, the gang leader, knocked out, so they kill Felix instead.)

Logan gets off on the murder charge, causing discord in the Neptune community between the richer people (the 09'ers) and the people who clean their houses.

V. goes on a field trip, meeting Jackie's dad, a famous baseball guy of some sort, and the mayor wanna-be, Steve Guttenberg. At the last minute, she doesn't get on the bus to go home, instead talking to Weevil about what happened on the bridge with Logan and Felix's death. Weevil gives her a ride home, and on the way, they find that the bus has just gone over the cliff. DUN dun dun!!!

V helps Curly Moran, possible evildoer, light a votive candle at the bus crash site, not knowing who he is.

During a party, an anonymous phone call is made from an unknown number in Logan's house - the caller tries to sic Weevil's gang on Curly by blaming him for the bus crash, saying that he was hired by a rival gang to get revenge on Cervando.

Curly is found dead washed up on shore, with V's name written on his hand. A unique, square diamond-encrusted earring (which V later realizes was Weevil's) is found outside the Road Hog, a biker bar near the scene of his death, the last place he was seen alive.

V recognizes earring Weevil is wearing as the one shown to her by Sherriff Lamb, when she is brought in to the police station after Curly is found dead. He tells her about the anonymous phone call from a number she tracks to Logan's home.

Veronica makes a visit to Curly Moran's last job, taking all of his personal effects from there (as they will be discarded anyway.) Finding an autograph of Aaron Echolls, mentioning "The Long Haul," she realizes that it's a reference to a movie title, from a movie poster she's seen at Logan's home many times, and that Curly Moran is the name of the stunt coordinator on the movie. She realizes that Curly coordinated the bus crash as a favor to Aaron Echolls, and that its purpose was to kill her as revenge for Aaron's incarceration.

V discovers Duncan has been visiting Meg constantly at the hospital.

V helps Lizzie, Meg's sister, remove some personal files from Meg's laptop so that her parents won't see them. She restrains herself from looking at them. (Barely.) (What will be found to be in these files, and what will it show about the bus crash?)

V talks to a girl who got a phone call from her friend - while the friend was on the bus as it crashed. The phone recording shows that there was an explosion on the bus before it went over the cliff, so it wasn't driver suicide. She gives the evidence to Keith, who gives it to Lamb, out of a sense of responsibility.

V plants a bug in Lamb's office, ostensibly from blergl, and discovers that Jackie's dad is being blackmailed by Lamb. He gambles - not on baseball, his sport - but he has friends who do gamble large sums of money on baseball. (The bug is later removed by Keith, who recognizes it.)

V plans to get revenge on Jackie for punking her (with a psychic and credit-card scam) by having the tape of Jackie's father being blackmailed by Lamb played at the homecoming dance. She decides against it, for Wallace's sake. Jackie and V have a fight at the dance anyway, because V sees her dancing with Logan, and is angry that she's cheating on Wallace, not knowing that Wallace had just dumped her.

Wallace leaves town with his father, frustrated that he's being lied to by his mother and let down by V.

Squee! Good season so far! Squee!

  • One thing to remember, that CD that Keith gave to Lamb is NOT the recording of the phone call. It was a copy of the recorded conversation between Lamb and Jackie's dad. This was the CD that V was going to have played at the Prom before she decided against it. Keith assumed it was a copy of the bus crash phone call and took it to Lamb.

Fortunately, so far, Lamb didn't want to hear it, so doesn't know about the recording. I wonder what he will do if he does. Will he attempt to do prevent it from being used in his political agenda, and ensure his own downfall?

  • Re: the above post, I think they were two different CD's. The CD that Veronica made of the secret recording between Lamb and Jackie's dad was on a CD that had "Homecoming Request" written on it. That was NOT the CD that Keith brought to Lamb, because that CD did not have any writing on it.

Plus, why would Keith think that the phone call would be on a CD labeled "Homecoming Request?" Veronica played the bus voicemail for Keith straight from her phone, so Keith must have recorded that voicemail onto a CD to take to Lamb.

  • I agree with Anonymous, and disagree with Anonymous --

Holy crowleys! Does this mean that JUNSTIN is watching Veronica Mars, and so now all the bestest people is watching this greatsome show? That can't be, because it would be too awesome.

Anonymous, I don't know if you're Junstin, but you might be. If you aren't, then you are clearly someone else! CLEARLY.

  • Actually, if you remember, when V was going to have her dad listen to the phone call, she had her phone in her hand, not a cd. She was all prepared to have her voice mail repeat it for him. This was only natural, since she was in the kitchen and not next to a cd player or computer.

The cd that Keith was offering to Lamb was in a cd sleeve, so you couldn't see any writing. Keith hadn't bothered opening the cd sleeve to look a the writing on it because he naturally assumed it was the phone call recording.

Btw, I'm the same as the first anonymous in these comments. I don't know who YOU are, anonymous. Stop using my name!

  • Back again. Yes, you asked "Plus, why would Keith think that the phone call would be on a CD labeled 'Homecoming Request?'"

The reason was that V had a cd she decided to leave at home after Keith told her he didn't want to use the call to win the vote. If I were him, this would make me think that V had planned to play the phone call during the dance, but decided against it when Keither had made his feelings clear.
